Updated Fire Code Now Available from Construction Industry Publications
Following the introduction of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 last April, the Joint Code of Practice on the Protection of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation, also known as the ‘Fire Code’, has been brought up to date and republished.
Insurance policies for contractors and sub-contractors will often require compliance with the Fire Code and anyone not complying where required runs the risk of having their insurance policy voided.
In addition to being brought into line with CDM 2015, the 9th Edition of the Fire Code now includes the following additional requirements:
• Temporary protective covering materials to be third party approved and certified and used exclusively throughout the project
• Photovoltaic panels to be installed in accordance with the specification or relevant Code of Practice under the contract and maintained during the project
• Fire watch periods for hot permit work to be undertaken on the basis of minimum timescales
• Automatic fire detection systems to be installed in enclosed spaces and extended as work progresses on large timber framed structures.
The Fire Code is available from Construction Industry Publications for £25 plus P&P. There is also a special edition available, which includes an updated checklist to establish whether fire precautions on site are adequate, for £35 plus P&P.
