Book Now for Open Doors 2017!

People interested in finding out more about a career in construction can now book to visit a site near them as part of this year’s Open Doors, which takes place from Monday 27 March to Saturday 1 April 2017.

Open Doors sees Build UK members open live construction sites and offices to the public to go ‘behind the scenes’ and showcase the huge variety of careers available in the industry. It seeks to inspire young people and career changers to consider and explore a dynamic and exciting career in the construction industry.

Bookings are now available on the Open Doors website and spaces are set to fill up quickly. Last year’s event saw a record 3,000 people visit 138 construction sites across England, Scotland and Wales, and 2017 is shaping up to be another ground-breaking event. Over 35 diverse projects have already registered to open their gates so far including Multiplex’s 22 Bishopsgate in London and Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, Kier’s Callywith College in Cornwall, and Bouygues UK’s Pembroke Learning Campus in Wales.

Open Doors is a unique opportunity to hear directly from those working across the industry about their careers and experiences, and visitors will be provided with a tour of the project so that they can experience first-hand the impact of construction on their local and wider communities.

Build UK is delivering Open Doors in partnership with CITB, with support from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and media partner Construction News, as part of its commitment to changing the image of the industry by inspiring people to choose construction, whilst also motivating the current workforce to remain in the industry.

Build UK Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE said:

“With bookings now open and more and more sites registering to take part in Open Doors, 2017 is set to be another hugely successful event. If you’re looking for a career which is diverse and challenging, you should look no further than construction; my career started from a site visit and Open Doors enables you to take a closer look at some of the UK’s most exciting projects and experience for yourself what makes construction such a fantastic industry.”
