Build UK and CITB Host Successful School Engagement Programme Workshop
Build UK and CITB hosted a workshop to discuss what would be required to develop a school engagement portal to promote existing construction careers programmes to schools and colleges.
By presenting a consistent approach, the Build UK and CITB initiative represents an innovative and significant step towards navigating construction's skills challenges and improving the image of the industry. Build UK is committed to inspiring more people to consider a career in construction, and aims to build on the success of initiatives such as Open Doors by bringing together construction careers schemes and collaborating with schools to make sure that all engagement meets their needs, as well as those of their pupils.
Among the attendees were school engagement schemes, schools and employers. Based on the feedback received from these participants at the event, the outcomes were incredibly encouraging and will contribute to the development of an effective system to link the construction industry with schools.
A common theme on the day was the image of construction and ensuring that the industry is positively perceived among students, parents and educators. The solution as agreed by the many attendees, was to address the brand image of construction and promote the industry as a more exciting and enticing prospect for young people.
This was just one of the many topics discussed which will help drive the future of the construction in a more positive direction as we look to attract more young people to the industry. Build UK will use the outcomes of the workshop to inform the next stages of development and provide regular updates on its progress.
