The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has set a requirement for all cards (displaying the CSCS logo) to develop plans to introduce smart technology by 2020 via its Industrial Strategy: Construction 2025. The aim of this requirement is to provide the industry with a consistent means of recognising that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for their occupation.
The Build UK and CECA SmartCard Audit promotes the value of smart technology and aims to drive increased industry uptake. Benefits of the audit include assisting members towards a fully qualified workforce, leading to improved standards, safety and productivity on site.
The audit will also highlight any expired or fraudulent cards.
To increase the use of smart technology within the construction industry and helping Build UK and CECA members to realise the benefits to their businesses, supply chains and the wider industry.
Build UK and CECA members to check cards of all construction workers entering their sites on a specified day in the third quarter of the year, using smart technology wherever possible, to ensure they have the correct and in date training and qualifications for the occupation they are undertaking on site, are holding the right card for their occupation, and to identify any expired and fraudulent cards.
Build UK has now published the results of the 2019 audit here.
