Support for Carillion Apprentices
CITB has started the all-important task of placing the 1,400 displaced Carillion apprentices.
They are particularly keen to hear from employers who can employ joinery and brickwork apprentices and those that are based in Glasgow and require General Construction Operatives.
CITB have been working with the Department for Education (DfE), the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and their network of colleges and construction employers to be able to provide the apprentices with the opportunity to continue their education.
They have devised a package of support, including apprenticeship adoption incentives and standard ongoing CITB grant support, to encourage construction employers to recruit these apprentices and retain them in the industry.
The incentives to take on a Carillion Apprentice include:
- An adoption grant of £1000 which will be paid to those employers who take on a Carillion apprentice. The grant will be paid is two parts – £500 on sign up and the remainder after three months;
- A standard attendance grant will be paid on the basis that if an apprentice is in the first, second or third year, and regardless of their progress in that year, they will receive the remainder of the attendance grant for that year;
- All achievement grants will be payable on full framework achievement.
More information on CITB grants can be found here and CITB’s dedicated support team can be contacted via email or on 0344 994 4010 (England)/ 0300 456 8784 (Scotland). More information can also be found here.
